Four Seasons in Arabic

In the Arab world, there are four seasons, although the climate can vary from one region to another–some countries may not experience a true autumn or spring! But language-wise, Arabic uses the same familiar season names you already know in English.

Faslu Ar-rabee’ dāfi’

Summer in Arabic

Summer might be a little hot in the Arab world—sometimes even too hot—so you’ll often hear people complaining about it in conversations.

In most Arab countries, spring is celebrated in different ways. For example, Egypt has Sham el-Nessim, and in some countries, the first day of spring is also Mother’s Day.

Summer

As-sayf

Faslu as-sayf ḥārun jddan

Autumn in Arabic

Some Arab countries don’t really have autumn and go straight from summer to winter, but in others, it’s an important season often tied to the start of the school year.

Autumn/ Fall

How to Discuss the Weather in Arabic?

Now that we’ve covered the basic words we’ll be using, it’s time to put everything into action and actually learn how to talk about the weather in Arabic.

The key is to keep it simple — it’s a conversation, not an interrogation — so don’t overthink it. Here are some easy phrases that can help you start a natural conversation about the weather in Arabic.

First, there’s a never-ending debate between summer lovers and winter lovers, so you can even start a conversation with that. For example, if it’s very hot outside, you could say:

Summer lovers must be very happy now!

muḥibbū al-ṣayfi fī ghāyati al-saʿādati al-ʾān!

Just make sure you don’t get too involved in the debate — you might suddenly find yourself in the middle of a war you never signed up for!

You can also simply express your own feelings and thoughts about the current weather. For example:

I love sunny days!

uḥibbu al-ayyāma al-mushmisah!

The weather is lovely today

at-taqsu jamīlun al-yawm

It’s a little cold outside

at-taqsu bāridun fī al-khāriji qalīlan

Or you can discuss seasonal events and weather predictions:

I’m traveling during summer.

saʾusāfiru fī as-ṣayf

Did the forecast mention rain tomorrow?

hal dhakrat an-nashratu al-jawwiyyatu huṭūla al-maṭari ghadan?

We are looking forward to winter break.

naḥnu mutaṭalliʿūna ilā ʿuṭlat a-shitāʾ

The weather might change later.

qad yataghayyaru at-taqsu lāḥiqan
